A Norwegian Epic cruise gives travelers more than a dozen different dining options, both complimentary and for a fee, with a range of European, American and Asian cuisines to choose from. The cruise line is also pretty great about adjusting for dietary needs, if that’s a concern. But over time, every cruise ship begins to show its wear and tear. As such, in 2015, Norwegian Cruise Line announced plans for a two-year, $400 million, fleet-wide refurbishment program, and Norwegian Epic was a part of this program, which was dubbed The Norwegian Edge. For a decade-old ship, Norwegian Epic isn’t shabby, but it was even more glamorous than it is now when it launched in 2010. Norwegian Epic was planned as the flagship of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Epic class.

Cruisers always have the option of dressing up or not and for some, a cruise is the perfect time to dress-up. The full gamut of appropriate styles will be seen in the more formal dining rooms on the ship. Norwegian’s Night Out is one of the optional nights for dressing up and the White Party is another popular event to wear all white – or not! Norwegian Epic is just that, an epic experience for a cruiser to encounter.
With a living room, dining area, separate bedroom with queen-size bed and private balcony, Norwegian Epic Villas have a maximum capacity of six and are perfect for the whole family. They feature two bathrooms, additional bedding to accommodate four more guests and exclusive access to the Courtyard area, Concierge Lounge and private restaurant and bar. We were pleasantly surprised by how painless the check-in process was at the Barcelona cruise port. A rarity in our experience on cruise embarkation day. We now understand what makes this ship different from the others and noticed the service’s downfall compared to all our other cruises. On this cruise, we chose not to take advantage of Norwegian’s Free at Sea promotion and only purchased a soda package on embarkation day.
My only complaint with Bliss on the Epic is that the age restriction hasn’t been enforced in the past 2 voyages I’ve had. While other ships seem to do a better job at keeping the 18+ rule, staff on the Epic didn’t. While Maltings is supposed to be a “whisky” bar, it is actually a full bar with just about every spirit, beer, and wine served that is available on the Epic. The only thing the guys and girls don’t really like to do at Maltings is make Martinis. For this, they’ll point you over to the Martini bar just a few steps away.
